Sauti zetu mtaani forum

The Sauti Zetu Mtaani Forum took place at the Kariakor Social Hall in Nairobi on 7th November 2024, convened by Sauti Mtaani Radio in partnership with several partner organizations, including Consolation East Africa. The forum aimed to highlight the challenges faced by street children, provide a platform for their voices, and discuss ways to improve their circumstances. This initiative provided valuable insights into the struggles of street children and how various stakeholders can collaborate to support them.

During this forum, there were several key challenges were identified during the discussion such as:
Poverty: Many street children come from backgrounds of extreme poverty, which forces them to live on the streets in search of survival. This lack of resources makes them highly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.,
Lack of Education,
Abuse and Exploitation,
Health Issues: The living conditions on the streets often result in serious health problems, such as malnutrition, untreated injuries, and infectious diseases. Additionally, many street children suffer from mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and trauma resulting from their difficult circumstances., and
Substance Abuse

The discussions emphasized the importance of providing supportive interventions for street youth, such as job opportunities, access to food, and alternative measures like providing milk instead of allowing children to continue using glue. These solutions aim to address the immediate needs of street children while also helping them build a better future. There was also a brief from the Red Cross on how street children can access emergency healthcare services. The Red Cross representatives provided critical information on local health facilities where children can seek medical attention in case of injury or illness.
