Our History

Consolation is traced back to a research commissioned by Mensen met een Missie (MM) conducted by Koinonia Advisory Research and Development Service (KARDS) Limited in 2008.

The research sought to understand the work done by FBOs in addressing human trafficking along the East African Coastal Regions (Lamu, Malindi, Mombasa, Tanga, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar)

From the findings of the study, it was found that FBOs had no interventions addressing human trafficking at all. Moreover, Human Trafficking was mainly associated with victims from East Africa in the Middle East and not local victims. This study was quite revealing and brought out a collaboration between MM and KARDS to sub-grant to FBOs in Kenya and Tanzania, offer capacity building and provide direct services to victims and survivors of human trafficking in the region.

Since KARDS was a business entity it opted to start an NGO to carry out this work and hence Consolation East Africa was conceived and registered in 2011.

Since its inception, Consolation has rescued more than 200 human trafficking victims. It has also worked with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya to link the victims (mostly children) to charitable children homes and provide reintegration support to adult victims.

Consolationcontinues its work  on policy advocacy and  advocacy against human trafficking day in day out, year in year out.
