In 1991, the Organization of African Union (OAU) established the Day of The African Child to commemorate the student demo in Soweto, South Africa on June 16, 1976. The understudies challenged for superior instruction and the right to be taught in their own languages. This year Day of The African Child (DAC) National celebrations were held at Mungatsi Essential School, Namable Sub-county, Busia District, Kenya, beneath the subject ¨The rights of the Child within the advanced environment.¨
The event was attended by Honorable Justice Teresia Matheka, Deputy Governor Busia County, Arthur Odera, and more than 50 key actors included in Advocating for Children Rights from the Government, Private Sector and Non-Governmental Organizations. More than 500 children attended the event and entertained the visitors with poems and dances on the rights of children. The event was so much colorful and live. The County Commission acknowledged the efforts of the NGOs around for fighting for the rights of a child. The children also recognized the efforts of the government towards upholding their rights within the digital space but called for more action towards keeping them secure.
