2025 Regional CSO Forum to Promote Safe and Fair Migration in Ethiopia

The Regional CSO Forum to Promote Safe and Fair Migration, held annually under the Better Migration Management (BMM) programme, continues to serve as a vital platform for civil society organisations (CSOs) across East and the Horn of Africa. This year’s forum, hosted in Bishoftu, Ethiopia, gathered over 60 participants both in person and online to collectively reflect on progress, strengthen partnerships, and advance strategies in the fight against human trafficking and support for vulnerable migrants. One key component of the forum was the review of the EHAAT (East and Horn of Africa Anti-Trafficking) Network’s Sustainability Roadmap, reinforcing its independence and resilience. Through presentations, thematic discussions, and the launch of tools like the EHAAT website and the 2025 Regional Routes Mapping, participants explored data-driven approaches and coordination mechanisms to improve victim support and migration management.

For Kenya, the forum was particularly significant. Members of the Kenyan coalition—including Consolation East Africa—actively contributed to the sessions and committed to ongoing campaigns and action points. Consolation’s involvement was reflected in collaborative efforts aimed at addressing trafficking for forced criminality and enhancing gender-responsive support mechanisms for survivors. The forum highlighted the importance of such yearly gatherings in fostering regional dialogue, promoting unified action, and enabling CSOs to align their efforts with shared goals. It is through these sustained engagements that organisations like Consolation help shape a safer, fairer migration landscape in the region.
