On 30th April 2026, Consolation East Africa (CEA) successfully conducted an Agribiz in a Box training session for members of our Youth Community Ambassadors (YCA) program in Ngong, Kajiado. The training brought together young people, survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), and survivors of human trafficking who are either interested in starting poultry enterprises or are already engaged in small-scale chicken farming.
The Agribiz in a Box is an educational and practical toolkit designed to support young and emerging farmers in transitioning from subsistence farming to profitable agribusiness enterprises. Developed through collaboration between organizations including GIZ Kenya, Shamba Shape-Up, and Mediae, the toolkit combines practical farming knowledge with entrepreneurship and business management skills.
The box contains a variety of resources that guide farmers through different aspects of poultry production and agribusiness management, including:
- Technical manuals covering broilers, layers, and indigenous (kienyeji) chicken farming.
- Poultry disease identification and management guides.
- Business planning and financial management tools.
- Business model templates to help farmers structure and grow their enterprises.
- Practical learning resources and hands-on tools that simplify farm planning and management.

The training session was highly interactive, allowing participants to share their experiences, challenges, and aspirations in poultry farming. Those who had already started chicken farming reflected on common mistakes and challenges they had encountered, while aspiring farmers gained practical insights on how to establish and manage successful poultry enterprises.
One of the most valuable aspects of the training was its ability to go beyond poultry production alone. Participants learned critical entrepreneurial skills such as business planning, budgeting, record-keeping, and enterprise management. The structured approach provided by the Agribiz Box helped participants understand how to view farming not merely as an agricultural activity but as a viable business venture.
Participants expressed appreciation for the practical nature of the tools and resources, noting that the manuals and guides simplify complex farming concepts and provide step-by-step instructions that can be easily applied in their daily operations. The poultry disease handbook, in particular, was highlighted as a useful resource for improving flock health and reducing losses.
Through this initiative, Consolation East Africa continues to promote economic empowerment among vulnerable youth, survivors of GBV, and survivors of human trafficking by equipping them with practical skills, knowledge, and resources to build sustainable livelihoods.

The Agribiz in a Box training demonstrated that with the right knowledge, tools, and support, young people can transform small-scale farming activities into structured and profitable enterprises, contributing to both household income and long-term economic resilience.
