Creative Expression and Dignity: CEA and Partners Unite for Menstrual Hygiene Day Build-Up

At Consolation East Africa (CEA), we believe that menstrual health education and child protection go hand-in-hand with dignity and self-expression. In the lead-up to our main Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrations on May 25th, we kicked off our advocacy efforts with an impactful Day 1 build-up activity that brought art, education, and community together.

This foundational event was made possible through a strong collaborative effort. We were thrilled to partner with ITHM alongside dedicated Kajiado-based child protection partners, uniting our collective strengths to support and safeguard the children in our community.

Art, Creativity, and Learning

The highlight of the day was a beautiful, collaborative wall-painting session with the children. Transforming the school walls into a vibrant canvas, the children let their creativity run wild. Together, we painted educational murals featuring school subjects, geographical maps, and inspiring imagery. This hands-on activity not only brightened their learning environment but also gave the children a platform to showcase their incredible artistic talents and voice.

Holistic Hygiene & Protection Mentorship

Beyond the paintbrushes, the day featured crucial mentorship sessions. True to our inclusive approach, health and hygiene education was provided for everyone, ensuring that boys, girls, men, and women were all actively involved.

  • For the girls and women: The focus centered on menstrual hygiene management, breaking stigmas, and navigating their health with confidence.
  • For the boys and men: Sessions emphasized solidarity, breaking down cultural taboos, and fostering a supportive environment for their sisters and peers.
  • Child Protection: Working alongside our Kajiado networks, we reinforced safe spaces, child rights, and protection frameworks within the community.

The incredible energy of this build-up activity set a powerful momentum for our main celebrations on May 25th. By partnering with organizations like ITHM and local child protection actors, we are strengthening the community safety nets necessary to ensure every child can thrive.

We extend our deepest gratitude to ITHM, our Kajiado child protection partners, and the brilliant children who poured their creativity onto the walls. Together, we are creating a world where hygiene is a right, protection is guaranteed, and periods are never a barrier to potential.
