Salama Craft Community Centre is a Community-Based Organization located in Kibera slums. “Salama” in Swahili means “peace and safe” The main goals for Salama is to enhance the livelihoods of the teenage mother and vulnerable women in Kibera Constituency, Kenya, through the establishment of soap production, hairdressing, housekeeping, catering, and vertical farming. Other services that Salama offers include advocacy, financial literacy, life skills, First Aid, domestic workers training and civic education.
This nascent organization was started by a graduate mentee of consolation where both organizations work closely.
Since this CBO consists of young and teenage mothers who ought to search for jobs both locally and internationally, consolation took part in training and educating them in countering Human trafficking. The aim of this training is to educate them on how not to get lured and deceived into being trafficked. Also is to educate them on the right channels to follow in search for jobs and identifying false agencies using the NEA website.
Objectives were:
- To create awareness on human trafficking within the community circles
- To create a platform for information and experience sharing on human trafficking
- Discuss about the experience of participants with human trafficking in their localities
- Develop a local network that will assist in countering human trafficking within the locality
