Celebrating Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month: A Milestone of Inclusion and Advocacy

This past March, the global community marked Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month—a time to raise public understanding, celebrate the resilience of individuals living with cerebral palsy (CP), and advocate for greater inclusion and support. Consolation East Africa, in collaboration with partners on the Cerebral Palsy Awareness Steering Committee, played a key role in organizing impactful activities throughout the month. These included community dialogues to challenge stigma, educational outreach in schools to promote inclusive learning, digital campaigns using hashtags like #CerebralPalsyAwareness2025 and #LightItUpGreen to amplify lived experiences, and capacity-building workshops for healthcare workers and caregivers to strengthen grassroots support systems. The month-long celebration united families, professionals, and advocates in a powerful, community-driven effort that emphasized awareness, empowerment, and action.

At the heart of the campaign was a strong message: individuals with CP have rights, dreams, and talents that deserve recognition and support. By engaging policy makers, educators, and service providers, the events created momentum for long-term change and collaboration in areas such as access to care, inclusive education, and assistive technology. As the month concluded, Consolation East Africa and its partners reaffirmed their dedication to sustaining advocacy and inclusive programming throughout the year. The success of the 2025 celebration demonstrated that through collective effort and sustained engagement, communities can dismantle stigma and build environments where everyone—regardless of ability—can thrive.
